Well done to UK Cypriot Elena Georgiou who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity

Elena’s Kilimanjaro Climb

Elena Georgiou is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for The Butterfly AVM Charity Limited to help raise money for vital research.Elena is proud to be raising money for an amazing charity close to her heart, The Butterfly AVM Charity. This charity was introduced to her through family and has since been a very proud supporter of Nikki Christou who suffers from AVM herself

Nikki Christou is 17 years old, but at the age of 6 she was diagnosed with AVM (arteriovenous malformation). Her life was not easy and yet she found the courage to achieve things that some of us won’t achieve in a lifetime.

Nikki has been an inspiration to so many including Elena who  jetted off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in the hope of raising money for the amazing charity Nikki set up with her family to fight her rare disease.

So click the link HERE to head to her JustGiving page where you can also help by donating to raise funds for research so children like Nikki can have a chance to live a long happy life without the shadow of an AVM over their heads.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. The climb will take 9 days of blood, sweat and most definitely tears

What is AVM angiogenesis?

This is a normal process in the body’s replacement of damaged tissue, but it can also occur under abnormal mutational conditions and leads to AVM growth and recurrence after treatment. This is demoralizing for both the patient who often has to undergo recurring potentially dangerous treatments and the surgeon or interventional radiologist who have to repeat treatments after regrowth and expansion.
