TV series directed by UK Cypriot Alex Kalymnios to be shown on BBC TV Monday and Tuesday

Based on true stories, Three Families is a compelling and thoughtful two-part drama written by Gwyneth Hughes and directed by UK Cypriot Alex Kalymnios. It explores the emotional background to a controversial campaign which culminated in the UK government forcing a liberalisation of the law in Northern Ireland.Northern Ireland, 2013.

A mother is forced to question her own beliefs when her teenage daughter reveals she is pregnant. Young newlyweds Hannah and Jonathan are devastated when they learn that their much-wanted baby will not survive the pregnancy. In their grief, the couple speak to their doctor about their options, only to realise how limited their choices are.

Alex Kalymnios is an established director working both in UK and US.  She was born in London her Father from Piraeus, Greece and mother from Kaimakli in Cyprus. Alex was educated at Latymer School and then Bournemouth University.
 
Alex recently directed and exec produced the US pilot mystery drama CLOSE UP for Freeform.  Alex also directed numerous US shows including episodes of TITANS, IMPULSE, THE 100, QUANTICO, SWAT, ONCE UPON A TIME and TIMELESS.
 
In 2019, Alex directed the TV film LOVE YOU TO DEATH starring Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden and Tony Nominated Emily Skeggs. The film was inspired by the true events of Dee and Gypsy Blanchard exploring the complicated and rare condition of Munchausen by Proxy.
 
Alex also directed the TV film CLEVELAND ABDUCTION starring Taryn Manning, Raymond Cruz and Pam Grier. The film was based on the true story of Michelle Knight, who was one of three women held captive for over a decade under abuser Ariel Castro.
 
In the UK, selected credits include the final series – a three part special of SCOTT & BAILEY, THE WHITE PRINCESS, HOLLYOAKS LATER, EASTENDERS & WATERLOO ROAD.

Alex also directed BBC3 critically acclaimed hit BECOMING HUMAN starring Craig Roberts and John Boyega, where Alex was also nominated for a BAFTA Cymru in 2012. 
 
Alex is represented by Joe Phillips at Curtis Brown in the UK and Rob Kenneally, Austin Denesuk and Darian Lanzetta at CAA in the USA.
