Nine year old UK Cypriot Athanasia Peristiane wins gold medal at the Rhythmic Gymnastics London Championships

Athanasia Peristiane from Whetstone in Barnet took the Gold medal at last weekend’s (Saturday 25th-Sunday 26th June 2022) London Championships Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition which took placein Redbridge.

Athanasia is 9 years old and represents the Muswell Hill Rhythmic Gymnastics School in North London. She has been training since the age of 3. Athanasia comes from a musical family who work within the community helping raise thousands for local charities such as the North London Hospice and Sarcoma Cancer. She is the daughter of Roulla Violaris a Dance and Zumba Teacher from Barnet, her Grandmother Soulla Violaris has worked with London Greek Radio for over 30 years and her Grandfather Costas Violaris a singer song writer and musician who represented the final 10 for Cyprus Eurovision in 1991.

Athanasia is also a Trapeze artist and a ballerina. Athanasia came 2nd in 2020 and her efforts second time round came to 1st place and a gold medal in 2022.

It’s a massive achievement for her as hundreds of professional gymnastics from across the inner and outer London areas enter this competition..
