Happy Birthday to George Michael one of our most famous UK Cypriots gone but not forgotten

Today would have been George Michael’s 58th birthday. It is also the 6-month anniversary of his death. George died on Christmas day, December 25, 2016, at his home.

He was the lead singer for the band Wham! But he became a top solo singer. As one of the world’s best-selling music artists, Michael  sold more than 100 million records worldwide as of 2010. His 1987 debut solo album, Faith, has on its own sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Michael garnered seven number 1 singles in the UK and eight number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked Michael the 40th most successful artist on the Billboard Hot 100 Top All-Time Artists list.[

The star was born George Kyriacos Panayiotou to a Cypriot father Kyriacos from Patriki in Cyprus his late mother Lesley English.

He was born in London 25th June 1963 his two sisters Melanie and Yioda he attended Kingsbury High School his father was a policeman in Cyprus and became a restauranteur in the UK with the well known Jacks Restaurant in Edgware.

The star, who launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have “passed away peacefully at home”.
