Second gold medal for Cyprus with Marios Georgiou in men’s horizontal bar

Marios Georgiou won the gold medal in men’s horizontal bar final on Wednesday at the Mediterranean Games in Oran.

This is the second gold medal for the Cypriot delegation after the first place of Stefanos Nikolaidis a few hours earlier in men’s skeet, as well as the second medal for Marios Georgiou himself after winning the bronze medal in men’s artistic individual all-around final.

As the Cyprus Olympic Committee said in a statement, Georgiou scored 14.300 points in his first attempt and left no room for reaction to his opponents. Marios Georgiou also ranked 7th in men’s pommel horse.

Moreover, it is noted that in his first appearance at the Mediterranean Games Elias Georgiou placed sixth in men’s parallel bars with 14.300 points, just 200 points less than the second place.
Marios Georgiou was born in Cyprus and is the son of a Cypriot father and a Filipina mother.
