Egg production in Cyprus recorded a small drop in the first quarter of 2021 but meat production was up in the first two months of this year compared to the same period of 2020.
Data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat) show that eggs for hatching placed in incubation reached a total of 4.43 million in the first three months of this year.
In particular, eggs used for laying were 194,960 in the period of January – March (198,150 at the same period of last year) while eggs hatched for meat production were 4.23 million (4.45 million at the first quarter of 2020).
According to the data for January and February this year on meat production, 3,338 cattle of total weight of 1,053 tonnes were slaughtered compared to 3,133 cattle of a total weight of 963 tonnes in the first two months of last year.
