Cafe opening in Colwyn Bay by UK Cypriot Jale Mehmet

Colwyn Bay cafe to reopen under new owners who promise to raise the bar on breakfast
A popular cafe is set to reopen under new owners. The Botanical Lounge, in the West End of Colwyn Bay, shut in April as the owner was moving away.

But the site was spotted by Jale Mehmet and Neil Leighton-Jones – who both have years of experience in hospitality. They wanted to their own place and signed up to take on the site.

It will reopen on Monday with Neil saying they hope to raise the bar in the town – offering special breakfasts and brunches as well as Mediterranean lunches – with Jale’s family Turkish Cypriot roots giving loads of options.

Neil, who has two children with Jale, said: “This has always been our dream. We had eaten here last autumn and did say we would be interested if it ever came up. It was then my sister who spotted that it was available earlier this year. We went to look and liked it and after a bit of time we were signed up there.”

He added: “We will be serving breakfasts, brunches and lunches and alongside more traditional dishes we will adding in more healthy options, avocados, mushrooms, spinach, things that aren’t really being done in Colwyn Bay cafes.
